I understand when you go to a medical service of any kind Aboriginal or mainstream. You fill out a form giving details about yourself and a brief medical history. I've just contacted Kambu Medical Service they said before I see or can make a doctor's appointment I need to have a full health check assessment. I said no, I just want to see the doctor. At first an appointment wasn't available, then there was one available tomorrow morning, then I said I just wanted to see the doctor, then the receptionist, put me on hold, then she told me the nurse would ring back. Then I waited, then I rang back, she was seeing the nurse was talking with the doctor, receptionist said she'd ring me back, I missed her call she left a message, I rang her back, the nurse offered me an appointment this afternoon, I said really OK, then she said you have to do a health assessment, I said I didn't need a health assessment or a full health check, the differences weren't explained, new patients of the service need to fill out forms to give a brief history OK why didn't she say this in the first place instead of wasting my time and hers. Why did they say I needed to do a full health check because it's a separate medicare item number as well as the doctors appointment item number. Nurse are forcing clients to do things without explaining details. Then I was being palmed off to other Aboriginal Medical Services at BrownsPlains, other medical services, this service was appalling slow. You would expect medical reception to know medical service policy & procedures, appointment books, full health checks, specialist appointments, referrals, basic doctor appointments etc etc not so sure about Kambu Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service, when I asked the nurse if I could speak to someone in charge she said she was in charge and then put me across to the Kambu Medical Centre Manager who I haven't heard from.
See all Colin's Google reviewsFor anyone that is Aboriginal or Torres Straight Islander, this is a fantastic service for not than just physical health, but also mental health, family support and many other services. They are always willing to help in any way they can. As a father to 4 aboriginal kids and partner to an aboriginal woman I can't recommend them enough...
